This year we have a variety of events - something for everyone. Whether you like to combine hiking with history, or leisure time with learning something new, September is shaping up to be just what you are looking for. Printed calendars will be arriving in mid-August, but the most up to date information about events will be here, on the VAM web site. If you would like a printed calendar or a Vermont Archaeology Month poster to help us publicize our events, contact us. Be sure to include your name and address. You can also find out who we are, our goals and information that will assist you if you are interested in hosting one of our annual events. Interested in volunteering for archaeology projects? You can find that information under Resources.
Thank you for your interest and see you in September!
What is Vermont Archaeology Month?
Vermont Archaeology Month (VAM) is presented by the Vermont Archaeological Society (VAS) in partnership with the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation (DHP). VAM has been generously supported by the Vermont Agency on Transportation (Vtrans) and the Federal Highway Administration. Each September, VAS and DHP present events about archaeology and history, and particularly the archaeology and history of Vermont. The events include lectures, tours of historic and archaeological sites, hands-on activities, and workshops. The majority of VAM events are open to the public. Local historical societies, museums, libraries, educational institutions, and state and federal agencies sponsor events. Presenters include many of Vermont’s own archaeologists and historians, as well as scholars from elsewhere. September 2007 will be the fourteenth annual state-wide celebration of Vermont archaeology.
Dedicated to the stewardship of Vermont’s Cultural resources- Vermont Archaeological Society.
